"The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed."
-Carl Jung
Philosophy and Approach
My counseling style is warm, authentic, and incorporates humor when it (hopefully) fits. I use a trauma informed, Person Centered approach when working with my clients. I truly believe in the resilience we all carry within us, even when it’s hard to find at times. We are all doing the best we can with the tools we currently have and how we have learned to cope with whatever is thrown our way. In a world that is busy and distracting, it can feel rare to have dedicated time to focus on our needs, which can leave us feeling overwhelmed, unclear, or stuck. Sometimes it takes really slowing down, tapping into our "true selves" and doing a bit of digging and reflection to clarify or make sense of things.
Life’s challenges can take many forms—whether it’s processing the storms of grief, navigating big life transitions, adjusting to disability, or coping with feelings of anxiety and depression. I create a gentle, nonjudgmental and supportive environment where you are met with compassion and understanding. Much of our work will focus on your strengths, highlighting the skills and resiliency you’ve naturally developed over the years, all while supporting you in developing new ways of coping if old patterns are no longer working. Together we will build tools to help you move toward healing and growth, even if that simply means growing more comfortable with the uncomfortable.
Methods I incorporate into my practice include psychodynamic theory, somatic approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Polyvagal Theory, and mindfulness. I believe what we have experienced in the past affects how we live in the present. If it feels safe and comfortable for you, we can use somatic noticing to tune in to your body, exploring your experiences on a deeper level.
Each session is uniquely tailored to what resonates with you. You are the expert on your life and ultimately you know what will serve you best. I’m here to support you in that journey.
